Towns we cover around Palmetto

Manatee County is home ground and we cross the bay and the bridges regularly for the right job.

The tree that is giving you trouble usually tells you where you live. Old Bradenton and Palmetto streets are full of big laurel oaks planted too close to block houses. The keys and the waterfront lots run to palms and sea grape taking salt wind all year. The newer Hillsborough subdivisions are mostly young plantings that nobody has structurally pruned yet, and that is where a cheap fix now saves a removal later.

Palmetto and Bradenton

These are the older streets, and the trees on them are older too. A lot of the housing is one story concrete block with a low roof, and somebody planted a laurel oak fifteen feet off the corner of it decades ago. Laurel oaks are fast, soft and short lived compared to a live oak, and by the time the canopy is over the roof, the inside of the trunk is often not what the outside looks like.

What we watch for around here is weight sitting out on long horizontal limbs over a roof line, and a root flare that has been buried by years of mulch and sod raised up against the trunk. Buried flare rots quietly and there is no sign of it from the street. A removal in a tight side yard between two block houses is a rigging job, not a felling job, and it is priced that way because everything comes down on a rope.

Longboat Key and the Sarasota side

Out on the key and along the water it is salt and wind doing the work. Palms take it better than almost anything else, which is why they are everywhere, but they still hold a skirt of dead fronds and heavy seed pods that turn into thrown weight in a blow. Trimming a palm properly means taking the dead and the pods and leaving the green, not shaving it down to a point because somebody on the street said it looks tidier.

Sarasota lots run tighter to the house with more pool cages, and a screen enclosure is the most expensive thing in the yard to drop a limb on. Anything over a cage comes down in small pieces with a rope on it, which takes longer and is the only way it gets done.

Across the bay into Hillsborough and Pinellas

Ruskin, Apollo Beach, Sun City Center and Gibsonton sit on flat ground that holds water after a summer rain, and that is the recipe for a lean. A pine with its root plate soaked will move under wind it shrugged off in April. If you see the ground cracked or lifted on the far side of the trunk from the lean, do not wait on it.

Saint Petersburg and Pinellas Park are further, so it makes sense for a full day of work rather than one small trim. Call anyway and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth the drive or whether you are better off with somebody on your side of the bay.

We contacted Urban Outdoor Solutions to give us an estimate on trimming a Banyan Tree that was comprising the integrity of our house and pool roof tops. Their estimate was reasonable and extremely fair. Their work was even better. Their work was quick and clean. I strongly recommend them for your yard solutions. Thanks tons Jacob.

6/19/2024 update: Jacob was just out to pull up part of my paver patio that was starting to have sinking and heaving pavers. He removed the pavers in the impacted area, repaired the base, replaced the pavers, used a plate tamper to level everything out, then finished with a fresh coat of sand and a fresh edge coat of concrete.

Jacob showed up as promised to give an estimate. His fees were reasonable and the crew returned as promised to do the job. They were quick, thorough and even went the extra mile with last minute add-ons. I can’t say enough good about the punctuality and quality. I highly recommend Urban Outdoor Solutions. Thank you Jacob!

I had an awesome experience with Jacob. I got his number from a friend. He came out same day for my tree estimate. After telling him what I wanted a dying tree removed that was threatening my power line he went above and beyond and included trimming my palm tree and pine tree at no additional cost. His prices are by far the best around.

I absolutely love this company! Jacob is very professional and knows about the different types of trees and where to cut them for healthy results. It is so refreshing to have an honest company that charges a reasonable price. Jacob is a hard worker and he gets the job done fast. He even helped me carry out my own yard waste to the curb.

10 Stars for Jacob & his crew, they are fantastic! He stopped by my house DURING Hurricane Debby when he saw I had tree limbs down on my fence. He & his guys cleaned that, and picked up all the other crap in my yard for an incredibly reasonable price, getting soaked in the process as a band came through! I will never lose his card!
